Josiah, the Giant Slayer!

First off, I want to say thank you for taking time out of your day to visit this page and read about my nephew, Josiah, the Giant Slayer!

Josiah was born on March 1st, 2019 and has never been able to leave the ICU. He was born with two heart defects, Tetralogy of Fallot and a complete AV canal. He quickly turned into a more severe blue TET having his first code blue at 2 days old. Two weeks later he became septic and contracted bacterial meningitis in the NICU. He was emergency transported to the Children’s hospital where he immediately went into cardiac shock and respiratory failure and sent to the cardiac floor (CVICU).
He has been critically ill his whole life. He’s had pneumonia several times, his lungs have collapsed over and over and has spent most of his life on life-support. He’s had pneumothorax that pushed his heart from the left side of his chest all the way over to the right side.

The meningitis caused him to have a stroke and left part of his brain dead, but by the Grace of God his brain is overcoming this. His Pulmonary artery started to close, so they’ve placed a heart stent in to hold it open until he became stable enough for open heart surgery.

He’s had a total of 7 life-threatening code blue events since he was born and 2 full cardiac arrests. His first cardiac arrest was just from moving him a few inches and his heart stopped. They did CPR for 7 mins and got him back. The second time they had to do CPR 13 mins and thankfully got him back again. They have no idea why it happened or how to prevent it from happening again.

Since then he continued to have code blue events and eventually found he had a Tracheoesophageal fistula in his throat and this is what was causing him to aspirate so much. After three attempts at fixing it and an 8 hour surgery, it’s completely healed. He has never been able to eat/drink anything by mouth and has been mostly sedated his whole life. They are now finally preparing to do his open heart surgery.

Josiah has never seen the beauty that is waiting for him outside of the hospital walls.

His father was a firefighter for the Houston Fire Department but resigned in order to move his family back to Arizona. He and his wife wanted their daughters to have the opportunity to grow up with their cousins and be surrounded by family. he is now a police officer for the Gilbert Police Department and she is in the IT field but hasn’t been able to work much given the circumstances.

As you may know, even a simple surgery can put a strain on a household’s finances. Josiah’s family is constantly by his side and the financial burden of being at the hospital for 7 months has been hard. Alfred and Emily travel to the hospital everyday. They live 30 miles away and rely solely on one vehicle now. The second vehicle that Alfred was using to drive to work has been breaking down 3-4 times each time he commutes. They also have medical bills that are beginning to pile up because they aren’t being picked up by their insurance.

Josiah has a loving family who pray for him on a daily (if not hourly) basis and can’t wait to see Josiah break free of the limitations that being in the hospital comes with.

I have never set up a GoFund me page but I couldn’t think of a family more deserving of our help than this one!

If you are not in a position to donate monetarily, we would greatly appreciate if you would still keep Josiah and his family in your daily prayers.

John 4:53
‘Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.’
