On Monday, January 19, 2015, my son Joshua was in a horrific car accident while driving through South Dakota, in route from Minnesota to Florida.  Due to icy road conditions, he lost control of his car and was subsequently hit by two other vehicles – one being a semi .  Josh suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as some broken bones (left ankle and his sternum), but I thank God every day that he is still here.

I want to thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts, cards, letters, texts, phone calls, emails, facebook posts, flowers, fruit baskets, and just being caring individuals. There have been so many random acts of kindness since our stay here - our family is so appreciative.

Without being too graphic, Josh has undergone a couple of surgeries, including neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and orthopedic surgery and is healing nicely.  Recovery from a brain injury is a slow process, but we are seeing some progress every day. His left side has some movement, but due to the brain injury affecting that side more, the right side of his body has very limited movement. The prognosis is good, but will be a little slower in recovery.

Josh had a wonderful team of surgeons and some very caring nurses taking really good care of him/us. Thanks to each one of them and the many people here that have visited and prayed with us. Many, many thanks to our family that has flown out to be with us during the early days of our crisis – my sister Cynthia, my brother Benny, cousin Marionette, and friend Bugs – your support was immeasurable.  Thanks to the people on Nantucket – the police that notified us of Josh’s accident, the people at Nantucket Airport, Cape Air, who helped get me to Hyannis within minutes, and the cab driver that drove me to Boston safely as fast as he could. Angels were everywhere that day.  Please continue the prayers as I will for each of you.

We finally arrived at Spaulding Cambridge yesterday at about noon, to start his rehab and re-entry into society as he once knew it - a long road ahead.Josh is making little strides everyday - talking more, moving more.... He had ice cream (swallowed) for the first time on Monday!  Please keep him in your prayers as patience is not his strong suit (nor mine, but we are learning together....). Thanks again for all of the well wishes, prayers, fruit, flowers, cards, ear bugs, etc....  His new contact info is:
