Joshua Alton Cancer Support

Joshua was your typical fun-loving teenage boy until Joshua's family was hit with the unimaginable. In addition to the backaches he had been experiencing for weeks, on July 4th Joshua started losing his balance at work. He knew something was off and called his mom. Tara rushed him to the local hospital where they did some preliminary tests and told them they needed to leave immediately for the children's hospital in Washington, D.C. They found a baseball sized mass crushing Josh's spine and causing severe damage.

He had to have spinal surgery to release the pressure on his spine, but he has not regained function from his thoracic area down.

Joshua was given the diagnosis of Stage IV Metastatic Ewing Sarcoma. He has spent the last few months receiving treatment in Washington, D.C He will have to go through 14 rounds of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation, with no current prediction of when he can return home.

In addition, Joshua is also battling a bone infection acquired from a severe wound. Through this all, Joshua has been a warrior. He tries to comfort his family and is keeping up his sense of humor. Being the son in a military family as well as being on the Autism Spectrum,  Joshua has become quite resilient and learned to adjust to the situations that come each day.  He's worked hard and overcome so many obstacles in his life already  and looks at this journey as one more that he WILL overcome.  We are so proud at the strength, growth and determination he has displayed. Not to mention he has made friends with all the doctors, nurses and therapists that are part of his team.  He has made a family right where he has been planted.

Joshua and his family have a long road ahead of them. His mother has been staying with him in Washington D.C. while his sister and father have been commuting back and forth. Tara will need to stay in a hotel for 6 weeks while Joshua receives his radiation treatments.

Before Joshua is released from the hospital, major modifications to his home must be made to make it wheelchair accessible. Please help by donating and/or sharing his journey with others. All donations will be used towards his continued care and the modifications needed to allow him to come home.
