This Go Fund Me is being created for Josh Barnes, son of John and Jane Barnes. As you know John is one of our Brothers in the fire/EMS family and Jane is a teacher in the Springfield Local Schools.
A fund-raising dinner event was to be scheduled, but, due to the COVID -19 we have decided to postpone for the wellness of the community. We hope to hold this event in the future.
Here is Josh’s story ….
Josh was sick with strep throat and a double ear infection over Thanksgiving time. He went to the doctor and was given Amoxicillin. He never got over it. Christmas came and he was fighting fatigue and night sweats. He decided to go back to the doctor and tell him he was not getting better. His doctor did some blood work and found abnormalities in his white blood cell count. He was immediately sent to the ER at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. He arrived at the hospital and by 2:00 am he was admitted into a room.
John and Jane packed some clothes and headed down that morning (January 21st). The doctors explained to us he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia FLT3 and the were going to start chemo immediately. There is no known cause for this type of leukemia and doctors normally see it in older people. Josh will be able to fight it due to his age (28 years old) and by getting a bone marrow transplant.
Many family and friends have volunteered to become a donor and they are very grateful. They have a bone marrow match and the transplant will be held in the near future. Anyone still interested in becoming a donor can go to the link to join the registry: https://join.bethematch.org
Anyone that knows the Barnes Family, know they are always there to help anyone in need. As their family endures this difficult time undergoing testing, treatment and recovery; they continue to have normal expenses and will experience a significant medical expense related to his treatment. Please help us to reach our goal of assisting one of ours in their time of need.
