VandenEinde Family Flood Recovery

Donation protected
Our brother, Josh VandenEinde and his family live in Dickinson, Texas, one of the hardest hit cities by recent rains from Hurricane Harvey. This past weekend, Josh and his wife Heather did what they could to prepare for Hurricane Harvey.

At midnight, on Sunday the 27th, water began seeping in under the baseboards. Retreating to the second floor, Josh and his family spent a sleepless night with their two boys and dog. Josh and his neighbors chose to stay.

By morning, their house had fourteen inches of rain on the main floor and their cul-de-sac looked like a lake.

They made the decision to evacuate later that morning. The rain had not let up and the forecast was predicting continued rains until Wednesday.

Josh and Heather walked in chest high waters from the bottom of their driveway, guiding their two sons and dog in a kayak out of their neighborhood where a good friend from the church was waiting in a flatbed truck.

Our brother was told when he bought the house that they were not in a flood zone and flood insurance was optional so he choose not to get it thinking he didn't need it. We do not believe damages from Hurricane Harvey will be covered with Storm and Wind Insurance. Repairs and rebuilding costs will be out of pocket.

In addition, both of their vehicles have already been declared totaled by the insurance company.

On Monday an additional 10" to 15" of rain fell bringing water levels throughout the neighborhood back up again by Tuesday. Of course the damage to the house becomes more significant the longer it sits in flood waters. It is unclear when our brother will be able to return to the house to begin working on it.

Josh is always the first to help others whenever he sees a need. Now he is the one in need. We know both he and Heather would not be comfortable asking for financial aid, so we are asking for him. Josh and his wife are good and honest people, Christians who love God, family and this great country. Their use of any financial aid would be carefully used for repairs and rebuilding and replacement of lost critical items. Misuse of funds would not even enter their minds. All money will go directly into Josh's account.

As you may well know, the cost of any type of major home repair can be expensive. We do not know at this time what all will need to be replaced or rebuilt but at the very least we are asking for financial help with the basic things needed in order to get Josh and his family in a safe, dry home again. The rest will come with time.

Please help Josh and his family piece their lives back together. Anything you are able to help with will be gratefully appreciated. The road ahead, as it will be for everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey, will be a long one. Pray for them and please encourage others to help victims of this hurricane however they can.

Thank you and God bless you,
Victoria & Hannah, Josh's sisters in Colorado
