José Martín Fabian's Surgery

Donation protected
Hello Friends,

I’m writing on behalf of Ventura Fabián, master woodcarver from Oaxaca, Mexico, who many of you know from "The Visiting Mexican Artists Program: The Dancing Chickens of Ventura Fabian.

Recently, José Martín Fabián Melchor - Ventura’s 19 year old grandson - suffered severe, devastating facial injuries in a motorcycle accident in his village of San Martín Tilcajete.

I've known José Martín since he was three years old, and have watched this kind, gentle, beautiful and intelligent boy grow up to become a thoughtful, handsome young man who is an excellent, dedicated student of international business at a university in Oaxaca.

The accident caused multiple bone fractures (cheeks, nose, jaw) and after surgery performed one week ago, José Martín now has 14 metal plates and 74 titanium screws in his face. He still faces extensive and expensive facial reconstruction treatment, but his parents, Martín and Marisela, as “campesinos/artesanos”, have no medical insurance.

I hope you will consider donating some money, as the villagers of San Martin Tilcajete have been doing, to help the family cope with the medical expenses that lie ahead.  José Martín's first operation cost US$5000 (90,000 Mexican pesos), so a few dollars go a long way.

Any donation is greatly appreciated, but donors of $75 or more will receive a small Fabián wood carving as an extra expression of gratitude.

Thank you so much for your help!

Nina, José Martín, and the Fabián Family
