Jose story by him. For those of you who do not know me let me first thank you for taking the time to read this. My name is Jose Guevara I emigrated from El Salvador at the age of 9 and succeeded academically in this new country. In middle school I realized I did not have a Social Security Number, and from that moment on, my life changed. I knew I was different and I felt ashamed for being marginalized and left out of many academic opportunities because of the lack of documentation. During my teens I realize I was not like other boys I always had a femme energy and although for a while I was ashamed of it. I am now a proud gay man and my true self. After seeing the injustice Immigrant/Queer/Disabled students like myself face on a daily basis, I took it upon myself to fight to end injustices. The hardest impediment I had overcome for me has been my illness. During my second semester as an eleventh grader I received news that made every single problem I had every complained about very insignificant. What started as a six-hour wait in the emergency room turned into a nine-month stay in the hospital. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I pushed myself to return to High School only after a few short month of chemotherapy and successfully completed with all A’s my work by the end of the summer. In college cancer found it self into my body twice again. Unfortunately this past week I was re-diagnosed, although this time it was a small amount of leukemic cells in the brain. I asked to remain in school and my doctor has supported my endeavor. However I am not able to pick up another job at this moment.I am only working 12 hour a week as an intern. This is not enough to pay my rent and I'm in the process of adjusting my status. This is why I turn to you, my community. I have seen the caring and love you all have given me throughout my treatments. I have been able to fund-raise to stay afloat and thankfully I have always been blessed.  I am extremely tired and just wish to finish my year in school. Please donate if you can and share it with your contacts.hank you!
