My name is Jordan McGlotten, and I currently attend James Madison University, majoring in Media Arts and Design. I first want to say thank you to all of those individuals that have impacted my life and have played a role in teaching, mentoring, and or supporting me throughout my life and academic career. I wouldn't be where I am today if not for you, and for that, I thank you so much.
I'm aware that many of you are living very busy lives, so for those who'd like to know more about my story and why I feel this trip is important, read on! But if you'd simply like to know more about my financial need and wrap things up quickly, go ahead and skip to the last paragraph. Thanks :)
Why Media Arts and Design?
The expression of one's creativity is an experience that I can't fully explain with words. As some may already know, I have been writing and composing music for the last five and a half years, and I have been in love with the process ever since I began. I still fervently pursue my music career, but my love of multimedia creation and it's more flexible nature from an occupational perspective led me to major in Media and Design.
Stimulating the imagination is a truly fascinating phenomenon, and media and artistic expression is a perfect outlet to bring said stimulation to life. The job options I could have upon graduation could range from working for a PR firm or ad agency, to developing content for a web platform, or developing videos for a travel agency as well as shooting footage for a film studio. This wide range of occupational choices means that a sense of adaptability on a global scale is absolutely imperative.
Purpose:

This poignant quote encapsulates why I find travel to be so essential, because I feel that there's no other experience or activity that is as profoundly fascinating as being immersed in another culture. It has the potential to open your eyes to a world that is truly different from your own, and it helps reshape the way we see the world and live. That being said, I am so excited to have been accepted for the study abroad program this summer in Nice, France with James Madison University. This incredibly advantageous opportunity is one that I hope to take full advantage of so I can continue improving my knowledge of the French language as well as enriching my learning experience in an organic and efficient manner.
This six week six credit program is predicated on the cultural immersion of students, and I'm sure that this trip will have a tremendous impact on my future from an occupational standpoint as well as an academic one. Being a Media Arts and Design major means that employment opportunities have the potential to span the globe, and fostering a universal perspective early on will only benefit my outlook for the future. I want to be positively defined by my experiences, and one such as this could sculpt the path of my life in a truly rewarding way.
About My Need:
Even though I have been at a four year institution for only one year, I now know firsthand just how costly being a college student is. The financial contributions from my family and student loans have given me the opportunity to attend JMU, but any additional income that I make goes to living and or tuition expenses. When I have time outside of school, I work as a Mobile Sales Consultant at Best Buy, a Production Assistant for a Film/Media company as well as run a DJ business to assist in paying for other living costs. Unfortunately, I am in need of financial assistance to help meet the tuition and lodging requirements of $3,500. The additional $500 dollars would help cover the costs of my round trip ticket to France. With your help, I can meet this goal so that I can take part in this amazing academic opportunity. Even the smallest of donations would be so greatly appreciated. I am so hopeful that you could assist me in broadening my horizons so I can lay the foundation for my academic and occupational future.
