Jordan's Eagle Scout Project @ Ability Connection

About Me:
Howdy! My name is Jordan Buffington. I am a scout in Troop 844, Crew 808, Crew 138, and Ship 46. I am 16 years old, a senior at Coppell High School, and will be attending Texas A&M University as a Special Education major starting in Fall 2021. Ever since February 2019, when Scouts BSA allowed for young women to participate in the program as well, I have aspired to be an Eagle Scout just like my two older brothers. I am so blessed that Scouting has given me the opportunity to  learn so many lessons over the years and go on countless adventures. I am beyond excited to begin this wonderful project and I hope that you will support me on this journey!

About Ability Connection:

"Ability Connection is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves over 700 individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities across Texas. We believe disability exists when there is a gap between a person’s capacity and the demands of a particular situation; be it living, working or enjoying the community. Our job is to bridge the gap through individual supports, adaptations to the environment or demands, and training so that people with disabilities may enjoy the same quality of life as their non-disabled peers."

About My Project:
I am going to lead my team in building 70 coat hanging hooks and 50 cubbies in the hallways at the member entrance for Ability Connection. The organizational units will be self-standing, modular units that are safely secured to the walls, but will be able to easily be transported to a new location if needed. The structures will be bright and colorful in order to create a welcoming environment for the members and staff.

Currently, the members at Ability Connection have to bring all of their belongings (jackets, backpacks, etc.) with them wherever they go throughout the facility. Possessions are often misplaced or lost throughout the day as the members are busy with programs and activities. By building cubbies and coat hangers at the member entrance, everyone's belongings will all be neatly organized and easily accessible whenever they are needed, which will lessen confusion and allow members and staff alike to enjoy their time at Ability Connection even more!

Any additional funds raised above the cost of this Eagle Project will be donated directly to Ability Connection.
