Jordan Maidl's Breast Cancer Fund

Well, it might seem like a joke, but another Musick "kid" has cancer. The BRCA1 genetic mutation is NO JOKE. The details of Jordan's diagnosis and treatment are below.
For those who may not know, my sister, Jordan, and her family live in Bend, OR. Jordan works as a nurse, and her husband, Casey, is a firefighter/paramedic. They have two kiddos, Marley (11) and Max (7). Jordan will try to work as she is able, but as we all know, even when you have great health insurance, the "little" extra costs of cancer treatment can add up quickly. Any amount helps, but good vibes and prayers are very welcome as well!

Diagnosis
June 29, 2023 by Jordan Maidl

On June 13 I found a lump in my left armpit area which was immediately concerning to me. I was able to quickly get a biopsy and confirm it was malignant.

I have the BRCA1 gene mutation and have already undergone a preventative total mastectomy in 2020 to avoid this. Unfortunately, chances of cancer are 1-3% for BRCA carriers even after mastectomy.

After further testing we confirmed the cancer has not spread. My body CT and bone scan are clear. Good news!

Results:
I have stage IIA breast cancer. It is “weakly” hormone positive. HER2 negative. The mixed nature of the tumor complicates the plan because they are unsure if we should expect it to respond like a triple negative cancer or if it will be more driven by hormones. It is grade 3 (most aggressive) and in 1 lymph node that they can see.

Plan:
Chemo is scheduled to start Monday, July 3. I will be doing Dose-dense AC-T regimen. AC (adriamycin+cytoxan) is 8 weeks (4 infusions, 2 weeks apart). T (taxol) starts immediately after with weekly infusions for 12 weeks.
After a short break I will have surgery…removal of any tumor left and likely full axillary dissection.
Then they recommend radiation for 6 weeks and I will be on hormone blockers into the future.

Thank you. Thank you for helping me take care of my family while I cannot. I am full of gratitude for our community and all the people who will love on Casey, Max and Marley while we fight this thing. ♥️

**Update** July 23, 2023
I did start Chemo on July 3. Two treatments under my belt already. I've had lots of fatigue and stomach upset following the two treatments, but I have had some energy during my off weeks. The hair loss started earlier than expected, but I'm embracing the new look! As my seven-year-old said, "I'm pretty sure bald is actually beautiful".
