Jonathan's Medical Expense Campaign
Hi everyone, my name is Sara and I have created this campaign in support of my 24 year old son, Jonathan Petrutsas. When Jonathan was 13, he was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called Membranoproliferative Glomerulnephritis (MPGN Type 2). Little is known about MPGN and how to treat it, but one of the main preventative measures has been to control his blood pressure to keep his kidneys from having to work too hard.
Unfortunately, it has been difficult to keep his blood pressure down. On August 23rd he was admitted to the hospital with dangerously high BP and placed in ICU in renal failure and immediately started on dialysis. After six days he was released from the hospital under the care of his kidney doctor and will need to undergo dialysis 3 times a week until a transplant can be performed. At this time, there is no timeline on when this will happen.
During the years after he was diagnosed, Jonathan has been living a normal, active life: he plays baseball and basketball, he holds down a full time job and attends college. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, he’s an avid fan of the Astro’s and the Spurs, he loves to surf, skimboard, hike, canoe and travel all over. Our hope is that he will be able to continue all of these activities and live independently as he adjusts to his “new normal.”
While he hasn’t yet returned to work, he hopes to be able to do so soon. However, even with health insurance and working, his medical bills will be more than he can handle on his own. In the meantime his ongoing living expenses such as rent, insurance, gas, food etc. will quickly deplete his savings. That’s where this campaign comes in! We’ve set what we feel is a modest goal since at this time we have no idea how high the out of pocket expenses might be.
