Jon's Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
Hello everyone.

I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this, and for your continued thoughts and prayers for Jon. He certainly has a long road ahead of him, but with your support, we can all make his life a little easier. Here is a synopsis of what he has been through:

On 1/29 a friend of Jon’s alerted my parents that something might be wrong with him. My mom called the Paramedics and they found him paralyzed & unable to speak. The 1st MRI showed the left side of his brain to be entirely swollen. A repeat MRI a week later showed that the swelling had decreased & that he had a left subdural hematoma with subsequent left CVA which affected his right side. It also showed new brain tumors. The Doctors felt he was too unstable to have the tumors biopsied. The past 2 weeks he had vigorous PT, OT & Speech Therapies. He was discharged yesterday, 2/19. He is able to walk with stand-by assist. He needs reminders to exercise and use his right arm & hand. He does well left-handed. He has a form of Amnesia. He has no concept of his surroundings. Unfortunately he doesn’t know who my parents are, and when he was shown a picture of me and the kids, he has no recollection of who we are either My parents told him time & again that they’re his parents but that means nothing to him. He doesn't remember my parents home. My parents have been to court for guardianship in Indiana, and will have to file again in Wisconsin.

Jon is unable to care for himself at this time, and must have constant supervision. Because of this, my parents are responsible for him, and are trying to figure out his finances, medical bills, insurance, etc. This has been an extremely stressful situation, especially since he can't remember anything.

Before Christmas, Jon had a seizure, and ultimately had to quit his job because of this. He filed for disability and insurance; however, it was not approved prior to the current events. Hopefully this will be approved soon, but for now, he has no insurance. He is also on 8 different medications per day, and two of his meds alone cost over $1,000/month out of pocket. Luckily he has that in his savings, but that will quickly dwindle. My parents will certainly feel the financial effect of this, and will have many costs associated with being his caretaker. At this time, Jon will not be able to live alone, and has been deemed incompetent to care for himself.

I noted on my Facebook page that we will be holding a benefit for Jon in April to help offset the costs of his medical expenses, in addition to any other unexpected costs that may come up.

In addition to the benefit, I'm hoping this page will help aid in his recovery and help lessen the burden of financial costs to my family.

I truly thank you all for your love and support. It is hard to express in words how grateful I am to those who have shown so much support to Jon and my family. Jon has always been independent and stubborn, and he is never one to ask for help. I am part of his voice now, and am putting his pride aside so he can see how many people love and care for him.

From the bottom of my heart (and his), I thank you all <3
