Background:
In January 2019 our life's changed forever in one phone call. We lost our Jon Lewin . One of our very best friends, to a surfing accident in Sri Lanka. There isn't a person that knew him, even for a second that wasn't touched by his thirst for life, his patience, understanding and his genuine love and respect for anyone he knew.

His girlfriend Immy (pretty much the strongest people I know) told me soon after it happened that if he had a spirit animal it would have been a Turtle because he would be free to roam the oceans that he adored so much. This really resonates with me still. It has a surreal magical quality thinking of him now roaming the universe unchained from the constraints of our everyday lives…Truly free.

Planning this piece was a necessary kind of therapy for me. In deep sadness I needed something other than old photographs. To feel something else, and reframe my sorrow into something more celebratory… if only for a second. And so through the tears this piece came into fruition using photos of him in his element - surfing in Sri Lanka.

James Cousins, one of the Boomtown ’s main music programmers and one of Jon’s very closest friends suggested that a tribute was in order at this years festival something which we all agreed should happen. He proposed using this particular piece as the focus, as he too had found some kind of solace in it.

I am proud to say that it will now feature in the festival’s program this year and will also be featured, in a slightly different form, as a large tribute in the Oldtown district. Framed and hung on buildings painted in reggae colours in his honour, by people he loved. If you are at Boomtown this year please go see and pay your respects to a genuine hero of ours. It would mean a great deal to us (edit: Of course you can't do this now, however here is a photo of Ivan doing just that!)

I want to say a massive thank you to James Cousins and Vito Walker for making this happen at the festival,  It really is a beautiful thing what you guys have facilitated and I feel very privileged to have my work honour him in such a way. It may be my artwork here but it is the love of all of his friends that have come together in unison to make something good happen in his memory that is important. He would be very proud of us all.

It feels very strange to share this very private piece with you, especially for sale, but I hope you will feel it in some way and I hope it will end up doing some good... there is a goal of £3,000 to charity, but i feel we can beat it!! I will let you all know the total at the close of this campaign. Please dig deep and share far and wide!!

Say no to single use
Goes without saying but reduce your plastic use dramatically.... did you know that a staggering 91% of plastic still isn't recycled.
