To successfully achieve our future goal, our company needs the stability of a home. Our company has changed locations on multiple occasions due to financial difficulties and limited space. Jo-Mé Dance is looking for financial support from any and everyone to help raise the funds towards a building to call our home. We have received very little financial assistance which has left us paying for majority of our expenses. A new home will give us the ability to establish our company and our stability.
In return for their support, the company would recognize our Donors sponsors on our webpage as well as display programs at all events for a season.
Your donation will bring us closer to our goals. Our community is excited and eager to see Jo-Mé Dance succeed. You can be a part of that excitement by supporting our youth and entire organization with a donation.

Who we are:
Jo-Mé Dance Arts is a non-profit multicultural organization that proudly exemplify cooperative diversity and promote cultural awareness within the company, community, and the world. Jo-Mé Dance currently includes highly talented individuals of many backgrounds and ages. Our continued growth in numbers and diversity allows our work to reflect a variety of cultural influences and perspectives. Furthermore, being a company comprised predominately of urban youth and young adults, we aim to abate negative stereotypes through the impeccable level of skill and professionalism displayed by our dancers, and choreographers.
The primary goal of Jo-Mé Dance is to enrich the lives of inner city artist of all ages through the art of dance. We promote self-esteem, discipline, and a positive body image, while creating a sense of family and belonging for our young dancers. We seek to foster their physical, mental, and spiritual development by providing them with a structured and creative outlet that they can take pride in. We encourage our young members to embrace their passions and emotion in order to embody themselves in the choreography and movement
One of our youth members Experience:
"It’s New Years evening and I’m sitting at the kitchen table scrolling through my phone. My mother flicks on the television for only a few seconds and I’m already hooked. I watched young child of color prance across the stage elegantly. We are in a time and age where African Americans are plastered with stereotypes, like staples on a high school billboard. I hear statements like, “Black girls can’t do ballet” or “I thought black people only do hip-hop!” These comments are hurtful and very untrue, so it brought peace and justice to my mind when I saw these beautiful children of color dance so wonderfully. I thought to myself, “this was something I had to be apart of”. The very next morning, I called May-Lisa (one of the director of the company) to ask her if I could audition. She agreed and we set up a date and time.
On the car ride to the audition, my stomach was in knots and my mind kept hopping from one question to the next, “What if I’m not good enough? What happens if I mess up on a dance move? What if I forget a combination?” I have dance previously at the Origination dance school, but Jo-Mè was nothing like that. The environment was welcoming and warm. The dancers looked like they enjoyed what they were being taught. Everyone listened attentively when the teacher spoke. Something I have never experienced nor seen, so when it became time to dance my butterflies were long gone. Although I wasn’t as skilled as the other beautiful dancers, I felt like I belonged. In that very moment I knew that Jo-Me Dance Company was the place for me, and Maylisa thought the same thing too.
Jo-Me has opened up many doors for me. I have had the opportunity to travel to different states, perform in famous stages, give back to the less fortunate, and lastly help my future of becoming an artist. The youth company has had the blessing to travel to Philadelphia and reconnect with our other director Joe Gonzalez. He is such a talented dancer, with a beautiful heart and I admire him for that. He inspires me to become a magnificent dancer with hard work and dedication. In Philadelphia Joe taught us a new piece, it required lots of passion, technique, and fluidity. Using passion and technique behind your movements takes a lot of practice, time, and effort. When I am on the dance floor I feel complete, all my stress is relieved. I embody a different side of myself, the side where the mixture of music and movement touched my soul. As a musician, I see dance as the visual concept of the song. It contributes to the theatrics in the story that the music is trying to convey. Every type of art tells a story or has a deep meaning behind it. So when it comes to dance you have to listen to the music and think about the meaning behind it or what mood the artist is trying to set.
Jo-Mè has not only taught me to be passionate when I dance but also to be a passionate person in whatever I do. We connect to each other not as friend, but as a family. Family takes care of one another, supports each other and wants to see each other succeed. Jo-Mè demonstrates all of these aspects and that is why I love it."
