I am a neighbor of Vivian Hickman, a well-known figure in the community, who has a small vegetable stand at her home and cooks meals for residents of the community in the off-season to meet her living expenses. She has suffered a pulmonary embolism and is currently hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. The financial resources of her and her husband, a local handyman, are exhausted. They are the sweetest and most honest people, and it profoundly disturbs me that they are in this situation. They are in their 50s and too young for Medicare.
