I am David Holtzman a current first-year student at Quinnipiac University. Over my first year, I grew close with one of my roommates Jake Cataldo. Jake is one of the most dedicated, outgoing, and friendliest. I have learned of his background and his goals to help fight off cancer in our short amount of time knowing each other so far. Unfortunately Jake has torn his ACL and meniscus, sprained his LCL and MCL, and has partial fractures and bleeding on his femur and tibia. This is a freak accident that may require multiple surgeries and will keep him out of school for weeks, unable to walk for months and a challenging recovery ahead for him.

In his sophomore year of high school, Jake tragically broke his femur, shattered his ankle, and in a freak skiing accident. After five-plus surgeries and reconstructing his knee and ankle, he had to unfortunately miss months of high school as he battled his injuries. It took Jake years to recover from this. His life was essentially put on pause. Mentally Jake had to battle through some of the hardest times he will ever have to face in his life. Jake had to deal with the daunting battle of recovering while balancing his life as well. It put an immense amount of pressure on himself and his family. He was on bed rest for months and only able to move around by wheelchair with someone pushing it for him. His family and close friends had to help him through this process.

Through the past few years of recovery Jake has faced many challenges to get back to full health. He had to put in countless hours of rehab and relearn basic movement functions. This took a toll on not only his body but also his mental health. Jake went through one of the hardest battles one should never have to experience in his life.

Though his recovery was treacherous and took time, that experience helped Jake build himself into who he is today. Jake is an aspiring young man who has been dedicated to becoming the best version of himself and helping others around him. He has grown a great community through his local car detailing business. At college, he has taken the position of Vice President in his fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon. He has been quick to plan out events and instantly started working on ways to raise money for the fraternity's philanthropy and charities. He has helped enrich our brotherhood experience and many look up to him for guidance, skills, and for the person he is. Those around him admire his work ethic and how outgoing he is with everyone he interacts with. As a friend, he has personally pushed me to become a better person as he has helped raise my bar.

I am looking to raise money for Jake and his family in order to help pay for medical bills and rehab, and to support Jake through another hard road he has ahead of him. From his past injuries, his family has had to spend countless amounts of money on him. While he has done it before, we all want Jake to come back soon and better than ever. Every dollar is appreciated and will be used to support him and his family through this time.

Thank you for your contributions, it is all greatly appreciated..
