<div><strong>Katie Anderson is one of our dear MomCo. moms.</strong> We have been praying desperately and often for Katie’s son Griffin since we first heard his diagnosis this Spring. Katie and her husband Erich have managed to persevere and keep perspective and praise even through the most difficult times.

<div>This is Katie and Erich’s story:

<div>“The evening of April 29, we took Griffin to the hospital after a fall from the bunk bed ladder, suspecting a clavicle fracture. The doctor did X-rays of his entire arm just to be safe. While no fracture was found, there was an incidental finding of a mass that encircled his humerus, almost the entire length of his arm. We were transferred downtown to Wolfsons and admitted to the oncology floor. That week, Griffin had CT and MRI scans, full body X-rays, and a bone biopsy. It would be a few days until his biopsy results came in, so we were sent home for the weekend.

<div>On Wednesday, we met with the doctor where we learned his diagnosis, Ewings sarcoma. Ewings is pretty rare, only 200-250 cases a year with most being adolescents and young adults, making Griffin's case even more rare. The following week, he was admitted to have a port placed, bilateral bone marrow biopsies, and to start chemotherapy. In the following weeks, he had a PET scan, bone scan, and more chemotherapy. Griffin is admitted every other week for chemotherapy for either a 2 or 6 day stay. He also has outpatient chemotherapy 1x a month and weekly clinic visits. To date, he has also needed 3 blood transfusions and will likely need many more.

<div>Because of his tumor size/location, radiation is not an option. Because of his age and the involvement of both growth plates, our surgical options are also limited. <strong>We are in the process of meeting with multiple orthopedic oncologists to figure out the best surgical options.”</strong>

<div>It is hard to prepare for the tension of conflicting emotions that often come with significant changes such as the one that Katie and her family are experiencing. I ask that we learn to lean into each other. It is through these trials that endurance is built and our character is developed. As sisters, let’s do what we can to help the Anderson family and continue to focus on the hope we find in Jesus.
