Dear friends, family, and fellow cyclists,
The Victorian Police has yet again, through disproportionate measures and a lack of empathy, oppressed those in our community who they ought to protect.
On June 2nd, a rainy and cold Sunday night, I was cycling home whilst trying to keep myself warm and dry. As I approached the quiet intersection on Brunswick Road and Sydney Road, I turned to Sydney Road against a red light having assessed the conditions and my surroundings, deeming the manoeuvre as safe. Unbeknownst to me, I was being observed by officers of the Victorian Police in a patrol car, who swiftly interrupted my journey by pulling me over. Cushioned within their cozy police vehicle, they mercilessly dictated upon me an unreasonably severe punishment. That which was left unsaid and unacknowledged was of course the ludicrosity of the reaction to such a innocent misgiving.
I received the consequential letter this morning, declaring a fine of $403 for that which had happened. As I contemplated upon the preposterous amount of money required to settle with our police state, I wept for all those that the Victorian Police has coerced.
Please, friends and family. I ask for a compassionate contribution as I battle the injustice that has been inflicted upon me.
Thank you for your continued support.
