Hello, Matt and Andrea here. We are currently residing in the western highlands of Guatemala, in a tiny village called Tzanchaj. We traveled here from Kansas, with a handicapped German Shepherd named Guster. After he passed, we immediately found that there was a giant void in our lives. We decided to apply all of the love and care, and then some to the unfortunate stray dog scene in our village and surrounding areas. The pups in the area have loose "owners" in that they hang around the same people and places some of the time, however they are sorely lacking in medical care, food, and shelter. Many live on the street, infested with fleas and covered in mange. We've learned that the lucky ones are fed a few small tortillas each day, but most scavenge through trash looking for food and drinking from puddles of highly unsanitary water. None of the dogs are fixed and every new litter of puppies introduced to the community adds to this challenging situation. To date we have opened our home to caring for eleven of these sweet pups, four of which have died prematurely due to lack of care throughout their lives. We have just adopted three more puppies, and we realize that although we love and will continue to do this, it is not sustainable or feasible. Perhaps we are making a small dent and providing the best lives possible for these dogs, but we would like to help many more of the hundreds of dogs throughout our community. They desperately need flea, worm and tick medications, food, vaccinations, many spay and neutering operations, and of course the love they deserve. Any and all contributions add up and make a great impact on the lives of these canine companions. Please consider helping by donating directly, and sharing this with your fellow animal lovers. We will be very excited to share exactly where all funds are allocated and the lives that they have improved. Thank you! ❤️
