Please help my  friend and colleague in her healing journey to overcome ovarian cancer.

On August 8th, my dear friend and a dear friend to many, Lisa Brisse, owner and founder of State of the Heart Fitness (www.stateoftheheartfitness.com) received the news that literally changed her life forever. It was a shocking and unbelievable diagnosis from the doctor that the abdominal pains she was having only 2 weeks prior was caused by cancer... a cancerous tumor on her left ovary!

Anyone who knows Lisa has been totally shocked by this as we all know Lisa is one of the healthiest people we know! She's a Spinning instructor, wellness coach, exercise physiologist, and personal trainer. She teaches and coaches people on the importance of movement, mindfulness and meditation. Lisa had just taken a group of her clients to Peru in June to trek mountain passes of 14,000+ feet to Machu Picchu. Her whole outlook on life is one of positivity and her attitude is infectious! She simply loves life and lives her life to the fullest while inviting everyone to do the same.

This diagnosis of cancer has been a complete shock not just for her, but to all of us who know her. A devastating reality. But here’s what we know about Lisa... this is not something that will bring her down; she has much more life to live and that is her intention.

In the meantime, she faces her biggest challenge of her life. She has done marathons, triathlons, trekking over mountain passes, 100 mile bike rides, but this challenge of the body, mind and spirit is her biggest.

As of August 8th, Lisa’s life suddenly became about oncology appointments, CT and PET scans, procedures that included draining fluid out of her abdomen which caused a partial collapsed lung, as well as a full hysterectomy surgery on August 22nd to remove the tumor and any other residuals from her abdomen. Her surgeon said the surgery was the “best possible outcome”, which is great news but Lisa is not out of the woods.

After a very challenging week in the hospital, Lisa was finally released 7 days later on the 29th and has since been recovering with friends who have taken her in to rest and heal, indefinitely, which means that Lisa has not been able to work since her diagnosis and won’t be able to work for at least 6 months depending on her recovery. Needless to say, this in an emotional hurdle and a financial hardship that includes various medical bills, but also for her general living expenses, as well as other healing modalities such as acupuncture, along with food delivery and supplements as a result of her specific anti-cancer diet. The goal is to raise enough money to cover what insurance does not and to cover the loss of income so Lisa doesn't have to worry about anything other than a full recovery.

So far since she was released from the hospital on August 29th, Lisa has been getting stronger everyday with walking, as well as a lot of sleep and rest. Oh... and always some good laughs. Laughter is and has always her best medicine...

She has said herself, “I have no intention of leaving this planet anytime soon... I’ve got too much to do, too many books to write and too many laughs to be had. This is just a bump in my road, but one that requires all of my love and attention to my precious body. We are healing this together. We can’t always control what life throws at us but what we can control, is what we do with it. I intend to learn and grow from this experience, whatever it may be. Somewhere there is a gift here. It may not be obvious... but it’s there.”

Lisa has been such a bright light in so many of our lives and her heart has generously given to all who know her.  I would appreciate any help  you may be able to provide. If you are unable to donate please help by sharing this with others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting Lisa throughout this difficult journey.  "Many hands make light work."
