Help Kimber Mueller Receive Life-Saving Brain Surgeries
Cody and Kimber Mueller are a loving military family (Air Force 55th RQS) with two young sons: an 8-year-old and newborn baby. They are facing an extraordinary medical crisis and need your help to cover expenses for Kimber’s life-saving brain surgeries.
In late 2023, Kimber began experiencing tingling and weakness in her right arm. She was initially diagnosed with muscle spasms and prescribed medication. But by February 2024, her symptoms had worsened significantly. While Cody was away on military training, Kimber’s face began drooping, and her speech became slurred. A follow-up appointment revealed she had suffered multiple strokes.
Kimber was admitted to the hospital for weeks of testing, during which they received life-changing news: Kimber was newly pregnant—a miracle after two years of trying. Then, she was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a rare and life-threatening neurological condition affecting just 1 in a million people annually in the U.S. The disease causes severe narrowing of the brain’s blood vessels, putting her at high risk for additional strokes. Without treatment, Kimber faces the possibility of death or permanent incapacitation.
The diagnosis was especially terrifying for Kimber, as her mother suffered a similar fate. At just 32 years old—Kimber’s current age—her mother experienced mysterious strokes that left her bed-ridden and non-verbal for the rest of her life.
To make matters worse, doctors urged Kimber to terminate the pregnancy, explaining that continuing to carry the baby could be fatal. They also said they would not perform the life-saving surgeries while she was pregnant. Heartbroken but determined, Kimber and Cody sought a second opinion from Dr. Gary Steinberg at Stanford University, a leading expert on Moyamoya disease.
Dr. Steinberg provided hope: Kimber could safely carry her pregnancy to term under close monitoring, with surgeries scheduled after delivery. Despite the risks, Kimber and Cody held onto their faith and persevered.
Amid this crisis, Kimber suffered another heartbreak: her adoptive mother, a pillar of emotional support, passed away from breast cancer in April 2024.
On September 30, 2024, Kimber delivered a healthy baby boy, Brian Isaac, via C-section. He was her miracle baby—a symbol of her resilience and faith.
Now, Kimber is scheduled for two critical brain surgeries at Stanford in February and March 2025. These procedures are her best chance to prevent further strokes and ensure she can continue being there for her family.
Why They Need Your Help
The Muellers face overwhelming financial challenges. Cody, an 11 year veteran and Air Force Special Mission Aviator, had to step back from his demanding role and be reassigned in the Air Force to care for Kimber and their children. Kimber lost her job due to her diagnosis and has been unable to work since. On top of the medical expenses not covered by insurance, the family must pay for travel to and from Arizona to Stanford, California including flights and lodging for three weeks, food and daily expenses while away from home and care for their pets during their absence.
Kimber and Cody have always prioritized serving their family, community, and country, but now they urgently need your support.
