Hi, my name is Kamryn and I’m seeking assistance to help pay for my dance package for my college team. I just recently became the newest member of UAPB Golden Girls dance team and I will start camp in July. This has been a dream come true for me. Most people that are apart of the dance world like to say “dance is life” well for me “dance saved my life”. When I was 5 years old I was touched by someone that I considered family. I completely lost myself then. I started sleep walking, I was afraid to go to the restroom by myself and started acting out and I had some behavioral problems. After years of counseling my counselor Ms. Kristen told my mother that she felt that putting me in dance would help me out tremendously. I have always been a natural dancer. I haven’t received any special training because in all honesty my mother couldn’t afford that. My mother has been raising me and my 3 older siblings all by herself. My godparents helped her as much as they could but for the most part it has been on her. I have watched her work several different jobs to make sure we didn’t go without, so when my counselor suggested putting me in dance, my mother didn’t hesitate. She found me a majorette team out of Little Rock and we would travel there 3 to 4 times a week for practice. I can’t believe she did all that just for me. I was able to find myself again and put my past behind me. Times got hard and I had to stop for awhile. I haven’t danced since 2018 so when this opportunity came up for me to tryout for UAPB I was scared but my mother motivated me and pushed to do it. I stayed confident and did my absolute best. So now that I actually made the team that lets me know that this is definitely the right path for me. Although my mother has always been able to pull things together for me I’m asking for some help so she doesn’t have to do this alone anymore. Your donation will help pay for my dance package, school supplies, laptop and dorm supplies.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Where’s my village? I need you more than ever now.
