In April 2024, Ezequiel, a junior at the time, suffered a life-changing head injury during soccer practice. Due to the school's negligence, after being hit in the head and bleeding, he was only given an ice pack and sent back to class. Less than an hour later, Ezequiel called his mother, telling her he wasn’t feeling well. She rushed to pick him up to take him to the ER, but on the way, he suffered a seizure in the car. His family immediately called 911, and he was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a concussion, a seizure, and a brain bleed. Unfortunately, the delay in receiving proper medical care caused further brain damage, leaving him with long-term physical and mental health challenges.

This injury has not only impacted Ezequiel physically but mentally as well. It broke his heart when he realized he could no longer play for his high school soccer team, a passion he had worked so hard for. Now, as a senior, he continues to face the aftermath of the injury, including epilepsy that requires ongoing medication, regular MRIs, physical therapy, and various doctor visits. These challenges, although severe, aren't always visible to the eye, which is why he requires constant medical follow-ups and scans to monitor his condition.

Despite everything, Ezequiel is a fighter. He has made incredible progress due to his unwavering dedication and fighting spirit, but the journey is far from over. After turning 18 in November 2024, Ezequiel lost his health insurance coverage and can no longer receive support for his medications and scans. Although the school district promised to assist with medical costs, they have not followed through, leaving the family to shoulder the burden.

Currently, Ezequiel's epilepsy nasal spray costs $600, and his MRIs total $1,000. These are his most urgent needs, and the family cannot wait for the insurance situation to be resolved before covering these expenses. Additionally, he requires medical follow-ups, physical therapy, and other medications that add to the ongoing financial strain.
