Hi! I'm Alex and I'm a 36 Y.O. single African American mom to my 7 M.O. son Riley. We took a leap of faith and it paid off... almost.
We are thiiiiiiiiis close to closing on a house. Momma put in sweat - paying down debts, coming out of student loan forbearance, working with city agencies to get grants -- you name it, I've done it (I think). We are $4500.00 away from meeting our goal. Unfortunately, we are tapped from debt settling and while we have some funds left -- it's just not $4500.00. Plus, the little bit of money we do have (approx $1300.00) is going to remain in savings so we will be o.k. in the first month or so in a new home.
Where are the funds going? $1000.00 final inspection + $3500.00 to close.

A bit of context:
What started as a dream to own a home kinda quickly became more of a priority once we started experiencing some things from someone in our life. I would feel safer with my son in a new location where this individual cannot access us.
We are not currently unsafe or under threat of any kind, just to be clear -- I am just moving towards eliminating that potential altogether.
I am a community-centered, single, cis, queer, Black mom -- lord knows folks have helped us get to where we are. I am a firm believer that it's A O.K. to ask for help, and it's equally as important to return that help when you can.
A big part of our housing plan is to have one room reserved for folks that need temporary housing at low/no cost.
Located in West Philly!
Please do not hesitate to reach out! Happy to talk about our goals, plans, needs, etc.
