John's Search for a Miracle

Donation protected

Hello, everyone.  My name is Joy Loesel and I started this GoFundMe page on behalf of a very special boy, John Huh, and his family.  John started his difficult journey in 2002 from a very young age of four months old, when he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, which is a type of cancer most commonly affects children age 5 or younger.  John received chemotherapy and radiation treatment, as well as stem cell transplant.  After over a year of treatments, John went into remission.  Although John experienced some side effects from the intensive treatment, he grew up to be a happy and a positive kid.  Unfortunately, when John turned 10 years old in 2012, the cancer returned in a form of Ewing Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer, on the right side of his pelvis area.  Once again, John received chemotherapy for 1 ½ years and 31 sessions of radiation treatments.  In 2014, John’s Ewing Sarcoma metastasized to the left side of his rib bone.  He received chemotherapy for one year and 31 sessions of ration.  In 2015, his Ewing Sarcoma metastasized to the right side of his lung.  Again, he received chemotherapy for one year and 31 sessions of radiation.  In the summer of 2016, Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) were discovered in John’s bone marrow.  MDS are conditions that can occur when the blood-forming cells in the bone marrow are damaged. This damage leads to low numbers of one or more type of blood cells.  John received chemotherapy but failed.  In 2017, John’s MDS progressed into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a form of leukemia in which white blood cells produced in bone marrow are abnormal and do not become healthy cells. These abnormal cells crowd out the normal ones, so the patient’s body has a harder time fighting off infection.  Only about 500 children are found to have AML in the U.S. each year.  John has been admitted to the hospital numerous times for different types of treatments.  Unfortunately, the second round of treatment that John received just a few months ago to target his AML did not have any impact.  John also participated in a clinical trial which was not a success as well.  It was after he participated in the trial when John started experiencing bad headaches.  An MRI of his head was taken and his doctor, though not 100% certain since a biopsy is not possible due to John’s poor health, concluded that John may have tumor in two areas of his brain.

John is a very quiet teenage boy.  He has no siblings, and he has not stepped back into a school for over five years.  One of the things he has been passionate about is his dream of having his own corgi.  John loves corgis.  About a week ago, his parents decided to go ahead and make John’s dream come true and purchased a corgi.  Unfortunately, John contracted BK virus (BKV) and was admitted to Children’s Hospital in DC where he has been for almost a month now, and he has not met his corgi who he named “Mango.”  Doctors are not sure how to treat him, and John’s parents are becoming more desperate.  John himself started withdrawing more so now than before.  John’s father has been missing work and has been on John’s side 24/7, along with John’s mother.

Please pray for John and for his family.  I truly believe in miracles, and I pray that John will receive the treatment that he needs to put an end to all of the pains that he has been experiencing.  John has never complained about any of the pains and sufferings he has endured, but we are concerned that he is running out of will to fight.  I am also asking for donations to help John’s family by easing their financial burden due to missed work and medical expenses not covered by insurance.  My hope for John right now is for him to get well enough so he can meet Mango.  Every small achievement means tremendous for John.

On behalf of John and his family, thank you so much for your prayers and for your generosity!  Please feel free to leave any messages here for John.
