John's Kidney Donor Support Fund

Donation protected
On January 30, 2017 John was placed on peritoneal dialysis because he needs a kidney transplant. His cousin Shelby (pictured) stepped forward and began the process to be a living donor to John. After several months of flying from her home in Minnesota to Pennsylvania for various tests, she was declared his living donor. However, due to complications, she is no longer compatible to John. John and Shelby have been entered into the Paired System. This means that Shelby will now be donating her kidney to a stranger under the condition that another stranger will be donating to John.

John is trying to be an average teenager as a sophomore in high school, but being on the transplant list has impacted his day to day life greatly. He has to do 10 hours of peritoneal dialysis each night along with taking several medications so that he can go to school each day. His diet, social life, and hobbies have been severly restricted because of his health. He misses several days of school each month for trips to Hershey Medical Center, errors with his nightly dialysis treatment, and illness due to the medications. Shelby's donation of her kidney will save his life.

Shelby is a single mother who lives with her 6 year old son Bentlee in their home in Minnesota. She enjoyed helping others at a nursing home where she worked as a certified nursing assistant. She will be unable to work for weeks after the operation and will need funds to feed her family, fly to Pennsylvania, pay her usual bills, and afford medical bills associated with the donation of her kidney.

Her life saving action for John is priceless and we could not be thankful enough. Your donation will greatly impact her life as she saves another!

Thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated as we go through this process.

UPDATE: We have recieved word that there is a pair that matches John and Shelby. This means that Shelby will now be donating her kidney to a stranger under the condition that another stranger will be donating to John.
This is set to take place on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Hershey. Shelby will fly in to Pennsylvania shortly before and stay until she is cleared to fly home to Minnesota. John will be resting and healing for three months to follow. We are counting down to this procedure. Thank you for your continuous support.
