Johnny’s Miracle fight

10 April 2019. Our lives changed.  It all started with a lump behind the ear. Johnny, a happy young man heard  “No its only a  pimple like Johnny describes it, it will be ok doctors will remove it and that’s it”.

Johnny, 17 years’ old, is autistic which makes him unable to do what most of us take for granted. It is hard for Johnny to explain himself and understand serious conversations, Johnny also has difficulty with reading and writing.  Despite these difficulties, Johnny strives to enjoy his passions which is travelling and one day becoming a rapper. Johnny loves being surrounded by his family and enjoys our family barbecues and get togethers. Johnny uses his Playstation to relax.

By the 23rd of April Johnny’s life turned upside down. This was  two days before his 17th birthday. We received an emergency call from the hospital. What was supposed to be a day for explaining that the pimple isn’t just a pimple after anxiously awaited pathology results, our worst nightmares were realised when we received the heartbreaking news…Johnny was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, an aggressive cancer of the bone marrow and blood. This was the worst news any parent could receive.  Innocently, Johnny said  “it’s easy just cut it out”! And he begged to celebrate his birthday with his whole family and especially his cousins and wanted his favourite barbecue.

After a few weeks of hospital visits, the impact was great on Johnny. He was getting very tired and was still unable to understand what was going on. The hospital began preparing a room and Johnny was told he will be living in hospital for little while.

28 April 2019 Johnny thanked all his family for attending his birthday party. It meant so much to him to be surrounded by so many people that loved him.

3 May 2019 Johnny started Chemo. This was only supposed to go for one day, then with a break to allow time with his family.  Sadly, Johnny was affected by severe anxiety which led to Johnny becoming inconsolable.  As his family watching this, we are desperate and committed to defying the the odds for the miracle we are praying for.

Our global family is very close.  We are a tight support network.

Johnnys is our fun-loving, humble, down to earth, gentle young man with so much ahead of him and so much to live for.  This is why we have set up this GoFundMe page. For everyone that knows us we are not looking for a hand-out, we have realised that Johnny’s battle is a journey with its own expenses and at some stage financial burden on the family as Johnny’s parents have stopped work so as to focus on their only child, Johnny.

We also understand and appreciate that everyone has a story and there is always a deserving charity to contribute to however we believe that Johnny deserves a chance in this life and anyone who wants to help, can do it their own way.

Any funds raised will go towards hospital facilities, Johnny’s dietary requirements and additional unforeseen expenses during this incredibly difficult and challenging time for our family and maintaining a life journey for Johnny.
