My name is Tiffany, and I am writing this to hopefully help raise money for medical procedures necessary for my dad, John. My dad is currently in need of knee surgery, but can't proceed due to chronic infections of his jaw and mouth, as a side effect of radiation from cancer treatment.
My dad has been in constant knee pain for the past 3 years, however, his surgery to correct the pain can't be performed as the risk is too high due to infection. His knee issues have progressed from a constant annoyance, to interfering with his daily living. He no longer bends at the knee to avoid any additional pain, and has altered his walk to relieve any pressure. In order to proceed with knee surgery, it is crucial to have his remaining teeth removed, the infection cleared, and dentures created. Unfortunately, his insurance will not cover his dental issues, as they have deemed it "not medically necessary" even though it has been proven to be a direct result of radiation.
A little background information:
John was diagnosed with cancer back in 1996, at the age of 46. His original prognosis was not very optimistic, however, he wasn't ready to give up and decided to proceed with any and all treatment options that were an option at that time. In order to beat his cancer, John underwent radiation everyday over the course of 8 weeks. My entire family was extremely relieved, lucky, and thankful to discover that the intense regimen worked and he is still here with us today.
My dad's cancer was located on the lateral side of his neck, and as such the radiation was delivered to that location on his body.Unfortunately, now 21 years later, he is suffered the side effects of such intense and large doses of radiation. The radiation had weakened his jaw and over the last couple of years, it has began to rapidly decline. As a result, my dad is constantly suffering from infections of his jaw and mouth, and his brittle teeth are breaking daily.
My dad is a great man who is absolutely deserving of this. He has worked his entire life, is a wonderful family man, is the first person to offer help to others, and deserves to be free of pain. Currently, he is retired and on a fixed income. He has always had the most beautiful outlook on life, regardless of all the setbacks and difficulties he has had to overcome. I would like to show him that he deserves to be pain free, and have a good quality of life. My dad is not one to ask people for help, and would unfortunately rather suffer through it. So I am asking on his behalf, he deserves to get these procedures, so he can continue to do things he finds enjoyable, and live without constant pain. Any little bit will help get towards our goal of $4000 to cover the dental procedure so he can finally have the knee operation.
