Friends of John Hilbert unite!

When tragedy strikes, friends and family of those mourning always want to help but we often don't know what would be most helpful.  In the spirit of channeling the desire to help, Shari (Hilbert) Greenwell's work family has come together to create this Go Fund Me page but would like to share this with the broader community to include the entire community of people that loved John or his family.

Yesterday on April 9th, 2018, the earthly world lost a fine man - but heaven gained an angel like no other.  In his spare time not spent with the church or his cherished children and grandchildren, John was working on several projects at home for Chris, his wife of 47 years.  Our goal is to raise money to hire a contractor to finish the projects John had started but was unable to complete.  None of us can take away the intense pain Chris will be going through but we can channel our energy and generosity into taking one burden off her plate.

John's philosophy that a burden shared is half the burden and a blessing shared is twice the blessing rings true here.  Let's do our part to help share the burden and multiply the blessing.

For those of you that did not have the opportunity to know John personally but perhaps knew of him through his wife, Chris, or his children, Jon or Shari, here is his obituary and service information:

John R. Hilbert

Boonville, IN

John R. Hilbert, 69, of Boonville, IN, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Columbus, OH on July 4, 1948 to the late Louis and Edna Hilbert.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather "Pa" and a faithful servant of God. There is something very special about a person who loves the Lord Jesus and knows without a shadow of a doubt that their eternal future is in Heaven. John wore a white cap so that his grandsons, Carson and Peyton, could always spot him in the crowd at their soccer games. He was an avid reader, and took great pride in teaching Jack to read. The joy of being a grandparent was capped off with his granddaughter, Gemma. First Christian Church of Mt. Vernon, IN welcomed the Hilberts with open arms. Their passion for helping each other, and their genuine Christian love was a perfect example of John's philosophy that a burden shared is half the burden and a blessing shared is twice the blessing.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Julie; a baby brother; and brothers-in-law, John Johnson and Charles Overmeyer.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Chris Hilbert; son, Jon Hilbert (Angela); daughter, Shari Greenwell (J. P.); grandkids, Carson and Peyton Hilbert, Jack and Gemma Greenwell; brother, Larry Hilbert (Jean Ann); and sister, Bettie Johnson.

Although our hearts ache on Earth, he would want us to celebrate that he is home.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, April 13, 2018, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel officiated by Rev. Jack Neighbors with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville. Friends may visit 3-7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
