John was born with a Heart Disease called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick. The thickened heart muscle can make it harder for the heart to pump blood which leads to further complications such as Atrial fibrillation, Obstructed blood flow, Dilated cardiomyopathy, Mitral valve problems, Heart failure and Sudden cardiac death.
John had a standard follow up appointment with his Cardiologist on the 21.3.2018 and after a few tests he was sent to Royal Prince Alfred hospital to have a pace maker and defibrillator implanted the following day. This was only meant to be a 6 week recovery period.
On 8.5.18 John was very short of breath and only able to walk meters at a time before needing to rest. During the night John had a heart attack and was taken to Gosford hospital. After a few blood tests and scans we discovered that his troponin levels were very high (causing heart attacks) and a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) was found.
After these occurrences John was told he shouldn't go back to work for at least 2 years to try recover from the previous events. On the 22.7.18 John was feeling short of breath and experiencing regular palpitations and was sent back to Royal Prince Alfred to get more answers. His ICD implant was scanned and had shown signs of Atrial Fibrillation.
John has now been placed on Blood thinners to help prevent further cases of Atrial Fibrillation. John has been unable to work since 21.3.18 and with his first baby due this December, on going medical costs, countless trips to Sydney to see his specialists and general living expenses they are struggling to keep up with all the costs. They would appreciate any donation no matter how small to help make their situation a little easier.
