On Thursday 19th October at Punchestown racecourse a very special gathering will take place to fulfil the dream of the former jump jockey John Shortt who passed away earlier this year.

An extremely popular and colourful character, John Shortt sadly passed away on his 53rd birthday, 13th February 2017, following a long and hard fought battle with cancer. During his illness John had managed to achieve many of his life goals and wishes. He married his soulmate Anne Marie and they had a daughter Alex who is now six years old and not surprisingly a keen pony rider. A week to the day before John passed, he and Anne Marie celebrated the news that they had received planning permission to build a home for their family. The John Shortt Legends day is an opportunity for Johns friends and colleagues, of which there are many, to assist in making that dream become a reality.

The day will feature the Legends Jockey Challenge Race which will see many familiar household names make a return to the saddle following varying times of absence from competitive racing. Each rider has committed to fundraise in advance of the one and a half mile contest which will take place prior to racing on the day. The current line-up of riders includes:

Conor O’Dwyer
Peter Niven
Lorcan Wyer
Brendan Sheridan
Charlie Swan
Graham Bradley
Richard Hughes
Andrew Coonan
Luke Harvey
Jamie Osborne
Paul Carberry
Norman Williamson
Martin Lynch,Brendan Powell
John Cullen
Philip Dempsey

Following what is sure to be an extremely entertaining prelude to the days racing action the Legends Lunch will take place in La Touche restaurant, a fitting venue overlooking the winners enclosure.  Commencing at 12.30pm,  the day will include a delicious four course lunch prepared by Fergal Nugent  of Bouchon, Naas, celebrity tipster, aprés racing live music with special guest Paddy Casey and auction. Only a limited number of tables are available. To book please see contacts below.

After lunch and racing on the 19th October an auction conducted by Nick Nugent will take place in La Touche restaurant and the list of items on offer is certainly impressive. Among the coveted items are a return trip to the UK by private jet, kindly donated by Rich and Susanna Ricci,  a round of golf with Sir AP McCoy and Ruby Walsh, your very own dinner party prepared by Derry Clarke in Rathsallagh House, a years training with Jessica Harrington and Michael Halford and a trip to Dubai, Dubrovnik or the Cheltenham Festival.
