John Micheal Tew, Vietnam Veteran home repairs

Hi, my name is Tom Holman, I own a handyman/ home repair company in Livonia MI. Once a year I find a local veteran that needs home repairs but can’t afford to have them done.

This fund raiser is to help John Micheal Tew a disabled Vietnam veteran. The money donated will be spent 100 percent on materials and building permits for the repairs to his home. This includes painting, updating galvanized water pipes to PEX, adding lighting and minor electrical, building a half bath so he doesn’t have to travel upstairs, cleaning out his basement, installing an egress window in his bedroom, and installing smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.

All labor is volunteer, mine and members from the American Legion Garden City post that will be assisting with this project.. This year CCW Plumbing of Livonia is going to take care of all the plumbing.

Lowes of Westland is donating the bulk of the materials .

Update, the awesome folks at On-Site Hauling in Livonia have donated a 10 yard dumpster for the basement clean out. The Basement clean out will occur Saturday April 15th.

Update:

On April 15th our volunteers were amazing. We cleaned out the basement by removing 10 yards of debris and filled a dumpster. In addition there were four tv’s, a large old refrigerator and an old bathtub. Put to curb for city trash. Approximately 200 lbs of steel and the refrigerator were picked up by a scrapper the same day. At the end of day we cleaned the ceiling and heat ducts.

On April 16th we had a local painter spray the ceiling flat black. He did an amazing job.

Lanes plumbing of Garden City is donating a drain inspection and will snake the drains if necessary. 

Next week we will be roughing in the bathroom walls for the half bath.
