John McGinnis's expenses

On Friday, June 16, our dear friend, collegue & mentor, Sommelier John McGinnis was returning from a 3-hour bike ride. Ten feet from his own front door, his bike caught the neighbor's retaining wall, causing him to be thrown over the wall and land on the neighbor's yard, several feet lower, crushing his left leg under him. Immediately, he was faced with a condition the doctors described as "muscle compartment" where the calf muscle, severely traumatized, begins to die. Concurrently, the tibia and fibula of his left leg were shattered. None of his neighbors on his cottage lane were home. Miraculously, a neighbor's son, a first responder, was visiting his mother's home, saw John, and rushed him to the hospital  The doctors have said, had any more time passed, John very likely would have lost his leg completely. In the last 2 weeks, John has undergone 4 surgeries. Due to a top notch medical team of specialists, John's leg has been saved. 

John will now be moved to a rehab facility to begin the arduous journey of recovery. He is hoping he will be able to walk by summer's end.

John has no insurance. He had just gotten up and running in a new position at a new restaurant and was so looking forward to his future. 

This fund has been set up to enable all those who have been touched by John and his gifts of friendship, knowledge and generous spirit to be able to show their support. When John returns home, he will have NO means of income, no savings. This fund seeks to offer him a cushion for day-to-day living, even for groceries and rent, so that he may direct his concentration towards getting well and rebuilding his body and his life.
