John H. Thomas, Jr. Memorial

We're saddened to announce the passing of our father, John H. Thomas Jr. recently after several years of illness and complications from Covid-19.  John passed after 74 years of living a full life.  John grew up in Springfield, Mass where he attended Classical High School.  Went to undergrad at Bucknell University, where was the Band Major for all 4 years of his studies and he graduated with  Bachelor of Arts in Music and then returned after graduation to Springfield to raise a family.  He also earned a Masters Degree from the University of Phoenix.  In addition to his professional activities as a teacher and then a computer systems analyst, John was also a professional  musician and photographer for many years.   

After many years in Springfield, John later relocated to Richmond Virginia to pursue new employment opportunity and decided to make the relocation his new permanent home.   He happily returned to teaching combining his love for teaching with the computer skills he honed over the years.

John loved to play music, take pictures, dance, and joke with large communities of friends and continued to enjoy these activities throughout his life.  His nurses often commented that they and the other residents spirits picked up as he made his regular rounds to see his friends.

John passed away comfortably at the Envoy at the Meadows Nursing Home in Goochland, Virginia being cared by his favorite nurses and surrounded by his community of friends.

He is survived by his sisters, Lucie Lewis (James) and Sharyn Thomas,  his daughters Leona Thomas and Heather Sagan (John), 4 grandchildren Carl, Kendell, Kage, and Avalon as well as 2 great grandchildren.
