John Fuentes' Fight Against Cancer

Back in August, John Fuentes was admitted to the hospital. Initially, the doctors weren't sure what to make of his situation. Within a few hours he was life flighted to UTMB in Galveston. Over the next week and a half his condition improved and he started to regain strength and was starting to feel more like his self. Then came the news that no person or family members want to hear. Cancer. We had approximately 24 hours to process the diagnosis of colon cancer because Hurricane Harvey was bearing down on the Texas Gulf Coast. He was discharged because the condition he was admitted for (kidney failure) had been resolved and the hospital administration was preparing plans for keeping staff onsite because of the storm. He was told to find an oncologist.
He saw his oncology team on November 14th and a plan was developed that, at the very least, requires surgery to remove the mass from his colon. The oncologist wants to perform the surgery within the first couple of weeks of January when his new insurance becomes effective. Even with insurance, there will be considerable out of pocket costs including co-pays, co-insurance payments and will be out of work for an undeterminable amount of time.
We've created this fundraising effort on behalf of John because he is a man who would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He would do anything for anyone and those that know him personally, know that to be true. He's a strong man of faith and has always worked hard all his life. Back in 1998, he was in a catastrophic auto accident where he lost the use of his right arm. While some would roll over and give up, John didn't. He adapted to his new normal and never used it as an excuse. He returned to the work force and has persevered.
There comes a time when even the strongest of men need help and right now, John needs our help. Anything you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated. We sincerely appreciate your time and consideration.
