To my friends-
This is somewhat out of character for me—but if you are reading this letter- then you know me and are a person that I consider a friend. You are then someone whom I grew up with had lots of laughs and now we have moved on to adulthood. I may not have seen you recently but still count you as a friend—as such—I want to tell you a brief story of a mutual friend that needs our help-
John Dominguez came very close to dying last February 2017. In short, he had catastrophic congestive heart failure which affected his organs namely his liver and kidneys. He was in the hospital for over a month and racked up incredible medical bills. Again, if you are reading this we all know John’s struggles with leukemia back in the late 80’s. He survived, but as a result of the radical treatments the doctors administered has wreaked havoc on his body and his heart. These treatments and their effects over the decades was a direct cause of his current state of health.
Fast forward to today—unfortunately John’s heart is not recovering to normal function and he will ultimately need a heart transplant. In the interim, he will be placed on a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) heart pump which will help to get the correct blood flow and oxygenated blood to his organs.
This will be happening in the coming weeks. I.E. more hospital time and expenses.
John’s career was in the trades as a talented tile man--- (he gave Sergio Babich a run for his money!!) but he no longer can perform physical work. As we know, John is a tough nut and does not want any help—but what the hell are friends for. When I reflect back on my life- I can honestly say my friends were and are as important to me as my immediate family—and when I see someone who has endured such hardship and unfortunate health issues such as John—I think as a group of friends we can come together to at least help ease his financial burden.
