"This is cancer. The pathology report will tell us what kind and the prognosis.” The words from the doctor hung in the air and were met with silent tears. January 16th, 2018 is a day we will forever remember.
John and Kris met when they were 13 and 12 years old on the pool deck in Plantation, Florida. They’ve been dating since July 4th, 1986 when he asked her to go steady under the fireworks. He still reminds her on Independence Day every year of their dating anniversary.
John joined the Coast Guard after high school and they have two daughters, Alicia and Lexi. John dedicated his life to his family and serving the United States stationed in Baltimore, MD, Mobile, AL, Miami, FL, Borinquen, PR and Martinsburg, WV. In 2012, he retired after 23 years in the service.
They moved to Florida, back to the state where they first met, to start retirement, and have some fun! Until now, they have spent their time helping family and working towards owning a home again and playing on their sailboat. John was employed at the local marina and Kris became a professional shopper. This adventure has been cut short by the news delivered in January of 2018.
John is 49 years young. He has been diagnosed with Stage IV Gastric Cancer. He started chemotherapy treatment in February 2018. Since receiving the news, neither John nor Kris has returned to work. Every other week, they travel 3 hours south to receive chemotherapy treatment at Cleveland Clinic in Hollywood, FL.
Here's how you can help: John and Kris are selling their beloved sailboat to raise money so that they can pay for John's treatment.
In the meantime, they need support from friends and family to pay for maintenance, dock fees and monthly payments until they can find a buyer. (A listing to buy the boat is here ).
