John Cantwell Memorial Fund

Donation protected
This is a page being set up in memory of John Cantwell who sadly passed away on 09/04/18.

On Saturday 7th April John was doing what he has done most weekends since the 1980's, watching one of his many amateur football teams St Theresa's playing in a Semi Final of the Christian League Ajeku Cup.

During the game suddenly and unexpectedly John suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite the great effort of those in attendance performing CPR and John being admitted to the critical care unit at Aintree Hospital. John sadly passed away.

John left behind his wife Sandra, his two children Phil & Sarah and his many grandchildren. John also left behind as what was described by his son Phil as "Hundreds of lads he was a dad too" in amateur football.

John was a well known and popular figure within the grassroots level of football and was often seen as the first port of call for a lot of people. Anyone who found themselves in trouble would go to him and he would always be there to help take the burden away.

He was the type of man who would do anything to keep lads happy and involved in the game and was known at times to pay fines, for boots and league fee's for any lads or team's who found themselves short.

His son Phil again told a story about his dad being so committed to keeping the game going that he re-mortgaged his own home in order to get a loan so he could buy a van, to pick up and drop lads off of a Saturday or Sunday. Nothing was ever too much for him.

After speaking to his son Phil who I know personally due to him being the manager of my own amateur football team Lobster FC.

We have setup this page in order to raise some awareness and funding surrounding the severity of cardiac arrest and the risks it poses within the amateur game, and how not having access to life saving equipment such as portable defibrillator's can lead to such tragic events as this one.

Funding from this page will all be passed to the Cantwell family and money donated will all be used for putting money towards delivering portable defibrillator's to some of the grassroots team's within the community if possible.

Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
