John Brown Memorial & Burial

John Brown lived peacefully with his family on the Wind River Reservation in Central Wyoming for many years.  A devoted father and grandfather, John enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He and some other members of his family contracted Covid-19 in early July.  Due to his advanced age and underlying health conditions, he became very ill, and the local hospital transported him to a larger facility in Salt Lake City for treatment.  John passed away on Friday, July 10, 2020 in Salt Lake City, over 300 miles from home and without any family or friends present.  Unfortunately, John’s family cannot afford to bring the body back home to the Reservation for burial.  

John was married to Carlita (Swallow) Brown a Northern Arapaho Tribal Member.  She passed away in 2019.  All of John and Carlita’s children are enrolled members of the Northern Arapaho Tribe and most still reside on the Wind River Reservation in Central Wyoming.  John was a member of Oglala Tribe from South Dakota.  His tribe advised the family they could not pay all the costs of his burial in Wyoming and only paid enough to cover the initial funeral home bill in Salt Lake City.  There is no one able to cover the remaining cost to bring John home to the reservation for burial beside his wife.   This will cost about $5,000. 

His daughter Ann Howell enlisted the help of the Wyoming Children’s Law Center, Inc. to create and manage this Go-Fund Me page to raise money for his burial.
