John and Eva with her struggle of stage 4 lung cancer.

Hi, I'm John Cox, husband of Eva Cox.

I was having trouble breathing for some time, so I decided to go to the ER and get checked out. I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. They said the left side of my heart and left lung has artery blockage. I'm vegetarian, so it didn't make sense, but they said it was genetics. Well, it's something I will be working on: eating better than normal and additional exercise, along with them saying I need to be on blood thinners, meds for high blood pressure, and oxygen treatments.

Now, my wife has been going through similar breathing issues. Everyone might know her from running a non-profit kitten rescue called I Dream of Whiskers. I talked her into skipping the urgent cares that I tried first with no success. So, she goes into the hospital to get full scans done, and they came back and said her left lung is full of fluids. They ended up draining 1.4 liters of fluids from her left lung. They also said she had a growth the size of a lime on her left lung. Further tests showed she had 2 mini-strokes, one on each side of her brain. Then they found a spot on her liver. Then more tests and bone marrow showed a spot on her left hip.

She was in the hospital for a total of 5 days. We came back home, and we are soaking all this in, and of course, they are pointing to all signs of cancer. We waited for the biopsy after a couple of days, and she has stage 4 adenocarcinoma lung cancer. We were just floored. Both self-employed, Eva's people on the board of I Dream of Whiskers and other friends have worked very hard on her kitten rescue. They all found homes for the cats we had, and cages all to be removed from our home, for Eva will no longer be able to care for the animals. It's broken her heart into a million pieces. She has cages set up at Petco on Granada that her rescue and Hurricane 6 Rescue will have kittens.

In the meantime, Eva has lost her income, and also she had another business she also has to shut down due to this situation. Her fluids have come back since she has come home from the hospital within a week and now has to go get it drained out of her lungs again. As they told us this is a very aggressive cancer. We met with the heart doctor today and are meeting with the cancer doctor tomorrow.

We applied for Medicaid but are waiting on approval. She now will be applying for Social Security, which they said could take up to a year. We are just like everyone else and have loans, vehicle payments, etc. Eva's goal was to have a shop built at our home for her rescue, but without employees and funding she can no longer do this on her own. Cleaning all those litter boxes, washing all the linen, and cleaning all the cages is all way too much for her now. I'm reaching out to get these bills off of her. Some of them I contacted to try to stop the debts from her illness now. Eva has even used our cards to pay for vet bills cause she cares so much for the animals. Which most were from the community calling her and asking for help. Every animal she possibly could, she paid for to get treatment. She always would say I have to I'm a rescue.

So now I'm asking for her, for us. Please, if you're able, donate; it's greatly appreciated. Thank you.
