Johanna's Got This

Donation protected
Johanna Crossett - midwife, mother, and friend to so many in our community has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.  The good news is that it was caught early, is treatable and the long term prognosis looks favorable.  However, in the near term, it means she will be heading down to Seattle in late November for an extensive surgery. The recovery period will be difficult and lengthy, requiring a yet unknown period of unpaid leave from her work at the Juneau Family Birth Center.  Even with insurance, expenses have already begun to mount, adding an unwelcome degree of uncertainty to the acute anxiety that accompanies any major surgery.

In this vein, a coalition of support has formed to help offset the burdens that this season will bring. At this point our 3-pronged approach will help with a rest and relaxation getaway just after the new year, a meal service, and a subscription for a cleaning service (specific details below).

Please feel free to contribute to any one of these projects to help bless Johanna, Cory , and their family as she brings her beautiful strength to bear in this time of need. Thank you, community, for banding together and using your compassionate hearts to do important work that will surely be light through the darkness.

We are hoping to complete this fundraising campaign by Christmas 2017.

Projects Details:

1. The Shrine: Johanna loves the cabins at the Shrine of St. Therese, so we are sending her and Cory out for a couple's relaxation retreat at the Little Flower Cabin in early January for two nights. A warm meal from Chan's Thai restaurant (Johanna's favorite!) will greet the couple upon arrival. A gift curated gift basket of Johanna's beloved cozy items will also be provided (including massage gift certificate) so she can luxuriate in comfort.

2. Meal Service: In lieu of a meal train, the couple has opted for a service with a personal chef who will work to create a customizable menu that helps meet specific dietary needs so that prepared meals can be frozen and stored, ready for Johanna to reheat and enjoy. This will be especially helpful once Cory returns to full-time work in January. The couple has requested help with dinner entrees for January through February 2018.

3. Cleaning Service: To help alleviate the congestion of regular housework when Cory returns to teaching, we will be employing a maid from January through February 2018.

***If our financial goals are exceeded, remaining resources will be allocated to cover medical costs and help close gaps left by insurance.
