Johanna B. Fine Recovery Fund

Johanna B. Fine, a brilliant 37-year old lawyer who is a passionate and effective human rights advocate, a kind, loyal and generous friend, and the devoted mother of Orly (age 5) and Nate (age 2), suffered a sudden and totally unexpected heart attack in December 2016. She is now in Massachusetts recovering from the damage caused by lack of oxygen to her brain. Johanna, a strong and tireless fighter, is off life support and beginning to interact with others. Against all odds, Johanna is now able to respond to her family and caregivers and is starting to speak and take nourishment. However, she still has a long road ahead of her before she completely recovers. While insurance has covered some of her costs to date, her insurance carrier AETNA/Coventry/Foreign Service ( which is self-insured) and Mass Health are now refusing to pay for the physical, occupational and speech therapy that is absolutely essential for Johanna to recover. Moreover, they refuse to pay for Johanna’s travel to cutting edge brain trauma centers in New York and Chicago that specialize in the newest techniques for recovery from brain damage. Johanna’s age and strong independent personality make her chances for recovery excellent if given the opportunity to be evaluated at these state-of-the-art brain trauma centers. Johanna has always selflessly given her time, energy and talents to those less fortunate. Now she needs your help! Funds from Johanna’s recovery fund will be used to pay for rehab and nursing care that is not being paid for by insurance and for transportation to out-of-state rehabilitation hospitals that offer new insights and approaches to recovery from brain injury. Johanna Fine's father, Robert Finberg, is responsible for the withdrawal and delivery of funds to Johanna outside of GoFundMe in the form of a Special Needs Trust set up for Johanna to pay for her rehab and nursing care not being paid by insurance or government programs.
