Joet's University Fees

UPDATE: I have extended the fundraiser for Joet's next three semesters (Feb 19 Spring semester to Feb 20 Spring semester). These fees are inclusive of housing, tuition and some medical supplies needed for his studies.

Next semester, Joet will have rotations in pediatrics, surgery, obs/gyn and medicine. Each rotation will be 1.5 months and he will take an exam following each rotation before moving onto the next.
Here's a breakdown of Feb 2019 costs for reference. Aug 2019 costs will be similar.
· Tuition (3,000,000 UGX) = $834
· Housing (400,000 UGX) = $112
· Required Medical Supplies (100,000 UGX) = $27 (surgical and disposable gloves)

As some of you may know, in 2013, I had the opportunity to volunteer at an orphanage in Iganga, Uganda. During my stay, I lived with an incredible Ugandan host family and met Joet, who was taken in by my host mom as his family was unable to support and take care of him.
Joet, who was in high school at the time, was always so dedicated to his schoolwork and had a drive that most students do not have. Everyday he would share with me what he learned in his classes and how badly he wanted to attend a university in the coming years to become a doctor. While I lived with him, he stayed up late every night until 1 or 2am to complete his homework under a flashlight, as there was no electricity in his room. His hard work paid off as he was accepted into Kampala International University the following year.
For the past three years, and with the help of close family, friends and a group of former volunteers, I’ve raised enough money for Joet to complete his senior year in high school and his first two years at KIU (in addition to his on-campus housing fees). Joet still has another 2 1/2 years of schooling (5 1/2 year program total), so I’m extending the fundraiser a bit further this year as many people have expressed their interest in wanting to help, which is SO appreciated!
This semester, Joet will be taking the following courses: Medicine/Surgery (junior clerkship), Pathology, Hematology, Occupational Health, Pharmacology and Immunology. His upcoming fees are broken down for the fall semester as followed:
· Tuition (3,000,000 UGX) = $834
· Housing (400,000 UGX) = $112
· Required Medical Supplies (215,000 UGX) = $60 (lab coat, stethoscope, thermometer, aneroid BP machine, box of disposable and sterile gloves, etc.)
Any additional funds raised beyond the requested amount will be put directly towards Joet’s next semester and housing fees, due Jan 2018.
Fortunately, for many of us, we were able to receive an education with minimal boundaries, whether it be through the financial support of parents, opportunities to take out students loans, etc. Unfortunately, without the help of these donations, Joet would be unable to complete his studies, as his financial support is nonexistent.
Your contribution is helping the most dedicated, appreciative, kindhearted student who deserves to receive an education just like the rest of us! Thank you so much for your consideration and support!
