Joel's appeal for Hope

Story as explained by mum Kerry:

Three weeks today Joel (2yr old) came down with a fever, little did we know that 36 hours later he would be fighting for his life in ICU. Strep A bacteria infection led to septic shock and he rapidly went into multi organ failure resulting in him being resuscitated on arrival into ICU. We were told to prepare to say goodbye to him but our stubborn defiant little fighter had other plans! He has amazed the doctors with his progress and willpower and keeps overcoming the obstacles thrown at him. We were told that Joel would've been better off getting meningococcal as he would have a higher chance of survival.

It has been a rough few weeks with every few steps forward followed by a set back and we have a long road ahead as the septic shock along with the medications used to keep him alive caused damage to his hands and feet and he is going to lose finger tips and toes at a minimum with the possibility of more, only time will tell how substantial the injuries will be. He is currently fighting a fever again and the doctors just can't find the source of it so we are hoping it's just his immune system in overdrive trying to heal. Joel is getting stronger by the day and is now managing to sit up unassisted. Another 6-8 weeks and we should be able to go home.

We have had amazing donations from local community members, that will be put up for auction at https://m.facebook.com/joelsappealforhope/
