As many of you know, my Dad was admitted to the ICU January 4, 2022 for multiple organ failure secondary to COVID-19. During his stay in the ICU he suffered a cardiac arrest which has impaired his cognitive function. He has been in the hospital for 11 months and came home on Sunday December 4, 2022 to spend whatever time we have left with him and receive the best care. While my parents have insurance, it only covers so much, and we are learning very quickly how fast all of the necessary medical supplies cost that aren’t provided or covered by insurance. Even with insurance his medications have a high out of pocket price. As I am spending my days at my parents to help care for my dad I can see all of the stress my mother is facing and I am taking it upon myself to ask for financial help. My parents are both ones who would be first in line to help someone out and I think they deserve all the help they can get right now. The bed my dad was provided from insurance is awful and doesn’t raise high so it hurts all of our backs to do any care with him, also hygiene and incontinence products aren’t covered by insurance and we are constantly going through those supplies.
