TROOPERS' HELPING TROOPERS'
To Our State Police Family,
On September 1, 1998, Trooper I Joe Joseph Erb # 4049, NJSP 102nd Class took an early retirement due to several injuries he sustained resulting from a troop car accident in 1987.
The accident occurred while he was on patrol on the Garden State Parkway. Since his retirement, there has been a tremendous void in his life. He misses so much the satisfaction of the ‘pride’ and ‘honor’ being a member of the New Jersey State Police. Today, all he has are his memories that he treasures over many things that he witnessed throughout his life.
Because of the injuries that he received from his troop car accident, Joe has had to undergo many operations leaving him weak, even despondent making everyday a challenge and a struggle causing him to lose contact with many of his past state police friends.
Sadly, today Joe is witnessing endless physical pain together with suffering the side effects from his operations that has lessened his chances for employment opportunities. Because of this together with the lack of contact of former state police friends who he knew and worked with in the outfit has taken a major toll on his outlook about the world around him thus giving him a sense that nothing is really important.
Over the years, and being a 102nd classmate of Joe, I have done my best trying to keep encouraging Joe to take a positive approach while helping him anyway I could. However, it is becoming growingly difficult for me to do it alone, as lately I’m finding that my personal attention helping Joe is not enough.
Therefore, I am asking that any state police member, active or retired, that have a moment in their day to reach out to former Trooper I Joe Erb #4049 on his Facebook page (Facebook members: Joseph Erb) or call him (732 [phone redacted]) to remind him of his place in the outfit and that he is not forgotten.
You will be in awe on the ‘lift’ that he will get hearing from you ..... a brother ‘trooper’ even if it is for just a minute and perhaps, you may even enjoy the moment yourself speaking or messaging Joe, who is hoping to hear from you.
Those of us that cherished the ‘honor’ and privilege in receiving our badge should also remember never forget looking out for a brother/sister Trooper.and to remember THE JERSEY TROOPER 'motto' .... ‘Once A Trooper ….. Always A Trooper’
