On January 31st, 2017 my mom went to the emergency room for severe pelvic pain. The emergency room doctor was leaning towards cancer. So, the following day she had an appointment with an OBGYN who said it was degenerative fibroids. The next few months she experienced debilitating pain. After an unusual bleeding episode she went for a follow up to the same OBGYN and they did an ultra sound. They told her to just “keep an eye on it” and to let them know if she started to bleed again. My mom decided to get a second opinion because the pain continued to return showing no sign of relief. After a biopsy, MRI, and CT scan the doctor found cancer and referred her to a GYN oncologist. Meanwhile, they sent the biopsy to the pathologist who said it was neuroendocrine carcinoma of the uterus, which is a small cell cancer. Currently my mom is recovering from a full hysterectomy along with the removal of her ovaries, tubes, and some lymph nodes. After this surgery they sent the tumor masses to labs to be examined and were finally able to tell us what her actual pathology report is, which is stage 4b endometrial poorly differentiated endometriod carcinoma with neurectodermal differentiation. My mom’s oncologists says this is a step back from the ledge from what they first thought it was, but is still a very aggressive cancer.
The surgery was not considered a cure, but because of the prognosis my mom will be trying alternative methods to improve her chances of beating this. Medical bills and co-pays are already adding up and alternative methods are not cheap, especially since most are not covered by insurance. If you or someone you know may be able to help our family during this difficult time it would be such a blessing.
My mom has a very loving and supportive family who adores her. She looks forward to seeing her two daughters, my sister Danielle (24) and I (22), and her two granddaughters, Selena (4) and Ellie (1), grow up.
Please share this if you think you may know someone who would like to help out as well.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31
