Hi. I'm Gary and I'm setting this up for my special friend to help cover unfortunate costs related to an upcoming major surgery.
Jodie has been suffering with a health issue for over three years and has finally found the specialists who can return quality of life to her. I have personally seen the strong, brave face she puts on to go through things no one could comprehend. It has been a very long road of appointments with doctors, tests, procedures and not to forget expense since she has had to seek diagnosis and opinions out of state due to the rare nature of her diagnosis.
Jodie has SSCD, Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence. It is a brain/inner ear disease where she has developed a hole in what would be a normal covering of bone over the organs of the inner ear between her brain. She also has some other areas of missing bone besides this hole. So any input through this ear does not get "buffered" and sends very mixed signals to her brain causing awful symtoms with ear, brain, and body.
What is important to know is how much this has taken away from a vibrant quality of life. She suffers daily with hearing her own voice and heartbeat in her ear, hearing all things loudly, constant vertigo caused by sound or too much talking, dizziness, fatigue, and other symptoms making it difficult to do everyday things.
Recent great news is it can be repaired, but unfortunately the only way to return any quality of life to her requires a brain surgery. She is headed to UCLA in Los Angeles to have this repaired. It is a major brain surgery and will require much expense for travel, lodging for 2 weeks in Los Angeles, medical care with a very large out of pocket dollar amount and lost income during what will be a tough, long recovery taking one to two years.
