During this pandemic the nation has been fantastic, supporting the NHS and lots of other organisations in the UK who are supporting vulnerable people.
But I cannot help feeling that Deaf children are the invisible ones in all of this - all of the time. Then I saw the wonderful app created by DeafKidz International - it is three fun games that help Deaf children ALL OVER THE WORLD to stay safe from the Coronavirus. As a Deaf adult and a mother of a Deaf child I know how very isolating it is to be brought up in a hearing family and I think of all the Deaf children in other countries around the world who have a much harder life and more difficult start in life. My husband, Stuart has worked with DeafKidz International for six years and so I have learnt a lot from him about the difficulties that Deaf children face in developing countries - children are being killed, trafficked or maimed because they are Deaf. Deaf children are being taught in small classrooms of more than 20 children, this is not right, we have to do something to help them.
My Deaf son is so lucky to have a Deaf mother because he has always had full access to communication and information at home - a good start in life.
It was also lovely to find out that the games #DeafKidzVsCovid were developed with help from the children at Derby School for the Deaf, I was a pupil there in the 1970s and my son Sam was also there.
If you liked the DeafKidz app, they have lots of other great ideas to help educate Deaf children, their parents, teachers etc. But they need money to help create these and get them online. I hope you will give your support.
