Friends--We all endure difficulties in our lives. Some are inconvenient, like traffic on a rainy day or weak wi-fi at an important meeting. Other difficulties are life-altering, like suffering a stroke. Joanna’s life has been turned upside down. This unstoppable woman has found herself temporarily sidelined by two strokes. The strokes have impaired her in ways none of us could imagine. Day to day activities that we take for granted—like showering, dressing, walking, and getting out of bed—require hands-on assistance from nurses and therapists.

Joanna is currently receiving care at Kaiser Permanente Rehabilitation Hospital in Vallejo. Her medical team assures her that her prognosis is good, but this household breadwinner is not able to do things that once occupied her work life as a self-employed businesswoman. Joanna may be hard at work, but the hours of physical and occupational therapy in rehabilitation do not generate the income she needs today. When she does return to work, her condition will limit her work hours while she regains her strength and stamina. In the meantime, the loss of family income may have lasting consequences.

Many of you have asked how you can help. A generous donation to the Joanna Lagman Snyder Fund is an excellent way to help our dear friend. Our goal is $12,000 to help defray expenses including:
· monthly lease of her salon for the next few months
· home modifications to help make her home a safe one for her
· retrofitting the Prius to accommodate her new abilities
· uncovered health expenses
· phone bills, utilities, mortgage payments

According to the American Stroke Association, 53% of patients were able to return to work within a few months. Joanna wants to be part of the workforce. She looks forward to the day she can welcome each and every one of her clients back into her salon, return to hula class, and create memories with her family and friends. She also can’t wait to do the simple things—spending time with John, sleeping in her own bed, and walking Samurai to discover interesting nooks and crannies in the neighborhood.

Thank you for your time, and all the well-wishes, visits, and prayers. Joanna and her family are so grateful.
